Week 8, part 1 of 6

Week 8 in numbers: Burrow, two upsets and 16.7 points left on the bench

Joe Burrow had the week's best line at 42.5 PPR points, 462 passing yards, five touchdown passes and the overtime winner on the ground in a 43 to 36 win over Tennessee. Three other players led their positions: Tyler Allgeier at running back with 36.1, Tee Higgins at receiver with 37.5 and Brock Bowers at tight end with 28.2. Allgeier's line was also the biggest beat of the projection, 27.7 points over an 8.4 projection, and Jacoby Brissett's 4.5 on an 18.3 projection was the biggest miss, in the same game.

The favourites mostly held: Arizona, at 270, and Las Vegas were the only underdogs to win outright, and favourites covered in 8 of the 12 games on the cards. Across 390 teams in 32 leagues synced to FF Beacon, managers left 16.7 points a team on the bench and 44 of them lost a game their own bench would have won. The costliest single call was Tee Higgins on a bench behind Omar Cooper, a 47.5-point swing.

Week 8, part 3 of 6

How the projections did: a little low, and lowest at tight end

The Sleeper projection ran slightly low in week 8: 113 of 204 graded players beat it, 55 percent, with an average miss of 4.7 PPR points and the average player finishing 1.2 points above his number. Tight end was where it ran lowest, with 60 percent of graded players beating it by 1.7 points on average; quarterbacks were the one position below half, at 48 percent.

The season lists are the part to use. Adonai Mitchell has beaten the projection in all three of his graded games, by 9.3 points on average, and Jonah Coleman in all three of his by 6.8. On the other side, Saquon Barkley has beaten it once in five graded games, finishing 5.6 points short of a 15.3 average projection, and De'Von Achane fell short in all three of his. A player the number keeps missing in one direction deserves a second look before you set a lineup on the projection alone.

How the Sleeper projection did in week 8

Slightly low overall at 55 percent beating it, and lowest at tight end, where 60 percent of graded players did.

  • QB48% beat it, 11 of 23; average miss 6.1 points; lean +0.4
  • RB51% beat it, 29 of 57; average miss 5.1 points; lean +0.9

  • All55% beat it, 113 of 204; average miss 4.7 points; lean +1.2, all four positions

The line in each bar is 50 percent. Lean is actual minus projected on average: above zero means the projection ran low.

Computed . Graded against the Sleeper projection published for each week, in PPR, before any FF Beacon adjustment. A graded game is one where a projection above zero was published and the player took the field. Mean error is actual minus projected: above zero means the projection ran low. Season lists need 2 graded games; the reliable list counts players projected for 6 or more a game and the laggard list 8 or more.

What to do this week: claims, starts and holds

Every call is tied to a report above and to a number on the site; the cards below link each one to the tool that runs it.

  • Start Tyler Allgeier everywhere while Love is out four to five weeks, and claim him where he is loose: 36.1 PPR points on 16 touches. Run the bid through the FAAB calculator.
  • Claim Gardner Minshew in superflex: the named starter after three touchdown passes on 23 throws.
  • Start Jonah Coleman with Harvey out until December: up 856 in Dynasty PPR SF and 567 in redraft over the week. Compare him with your flex in Who Should I Start.
  • Claim Seth McGowan as a bench stash in case Indianapolis trades Taylor; redraft value up 610.
  • Claim Dylan Sampson and Caleb Douglas as depth: Sampson caught six passes in Pittsburgh, and Douglas is up 713 in redraft.
  • Hold Lamar Jackson in dynasty, where he is still 14th, and drop him in redraft leagues without an injured reserve slot.
  • Hold Jonathan Taylor through the deadline talk; check any offer in the trade calculator before you sell a top-15 redraft asset at a discount.

The value chart shows CeeDee Lamb up 1,148 in Dynasty PPR SF, the biggest rise of the week, with Drake Maye up 1,067 and Malik Nabers up 1,048. Switch the table to Redraft 1QB PPR and Maye's move turns to a 44-point dip, while Jalen Hurts goes from up 467 in dynasty to down 502 in redraft. Nico Collins fell the most in both formats, 419 in dynasty and 672 in redraft.

Week 8, questions people ask

Questions people ask

Is Lamar Jackson out for the season?

He needs surgery on his right thumb and the Ravens are placing him on injured reserve after he was hurt on the first snap at Buffalo on November 1; an NFL Network report called him likely out for the season. His Dynasty PPR SF value is 8,338, still 14th, and his Redraft 1QB PPR value fell 638 to 5,108.

Who is the Ravens quarterback now?

Tyler Huntley also left the Buffalo game with suspected turf toe and is expected to miss extended time, so undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano is the likely starter Thursday against Jacksonville. Fagnano went 10 of 21 for 91 yards with an interception and a lost fumble in relief, 0.9 PPR points.

How long is Jeremiyah Love out?

The Cardinals placed him on injured reserve on November 3 with a high ankle sprain expected to cost four to five weeks. Tyler Allgeier, who scored 36.1 PPR points against Dallas, is the running back to start in the meantime.

Will the Colts trade Jonathan Taylor?

Indianapolis is open to it and talks with multiple teams are active before the November 10 deadline, with the Colts reportedly seeking a package like the 49ers' McCaffrey trade. Taylor scored 6.7 PPR points against Jacksonville and is 15th in Redraft 1QB PPR at 7,165. Hold him either way.
