Week 1 in numbers: Caleb Williams, three upsets and 22 points left on the bench

Caleb Williams had the week's best line at 37.3 PPR points, four touchdowns in a 59 to 37 win at Carolina, and three other players led their positions: Derrick Henry at running back with 35.3, Jalen Coker at receiver with 33.8 on the losing side of the same game, and Isaiah Likely at tight end with 27.8.

The favourites mostly held. Only three of the sixteen games were won outright by the team the closing moneyline made the underdog, the longest of them Arizona at +370 against the Chargers, and Chicago and Carolina finished 48.5 points over their total. Across 1,748 teams in 137 leagues synced to FF Beacon, managers left 22 points a team on the bench, and 311 of them lost a game their own bench would have won. The costliest single call was Bryce Young on a bench behind Kyler Murray, who left with a concussion after 0.6 points.

Each card below is one game: the final, the line it was played under and whether the favourite covered, the score the line implied against the score that happened, the best fantasy lines on both sides graded against the Sleeper projection, and whose value moved. Three underdogs won outright, one game landed exactly on the spread, and nine of the sixteen went over the total.

    Sam Darnold threw for 13 yards before leaving with a hip injury, and Drew Lock came on to complete 16 of 22 for 187 yards. New England led 10 to 3 going into the fourth quarter on an Eli Raridon touchdown and a 50-yard Andy Borregales field goal. Lock tied it with a 45-yard throw to Jaxon Smith-Njigba, and Jason Myers won it with a 26-yarder at 5:50. Seattle won by exactly the 3-point closing spread, a push. A.J. Brown caught three passes before an ankle injury ended his night.

    Cincinnati's first touchdown came from its defense, Demetrius Knight Jr.'s 27-yard fumble return, and the Bengals led 24 to 10 at halftime. Is Sam Darnold going to play in week 2?

No, on the current reports. Coach Mike Macdonald said on September 10 that Darnold would miss the game at Arizona despite good news on the hip, and ESPN's injury page on September 17 lists him as out for that game. Drew Lock, who scored 12.8 PPR points in relief, is the Seahawks' starter for week 2.

How long is A.J. Brown out?

The Patriots placed him on injured reserve on September 11 with a high ankle sprain, which means a minimum of four missed games, and ESPN's report as of September 17 says about six weeks. FF Beacon's injury timeline places his expected return at week 5. His Redraft 1QB PPR value fell 1,505 in the week to September 15, while his dynasty value fell 125.

Should I drop Brock Bowers?

No. He had a meniscus trim on September 8, was called day to day by his coach on September 14, and is listed as questionable for week 2. His Dynasty PPR SF value is 6,946, 21st overall on FF Beacon. Michael Mayer is a one-week streamer in redraft only while Bowers sits.
