Stefon Diggs signs with the Commanders

Stefon Diggs, WR, has officially signed with the Washington Commanders on a one-year contract worth up to $12 million, per ESPN's Adam Schefter. Diggs was released by the New England Patriots before free agency opened in March.

Diggs is heading home in a literal sense. He grew up in Gaithersburg, Maryland, and played college ball at the University of Maryland. Now in his 12th NFL season, he joins an offense that badly needed another proven receiver.

What he brings to Washington

Diggs had a strong 2025 with New England. He caught 85 of 102 targets for 1,013 yards and 4 touchdowns across 17 games. His PFF grade of 87.5 ranked 6th among 81 qualified wide receivers. His 83.3 percent catch rate was the highest recorded since Michael Thomas' 85 percent mark in 2018.

Washington felt his absence acutely last season. Terry McLaurin, WR, missed seven games with a quad injury, Noah Brown missed 13 with knee and groin issues, and the team ended up using five receivers who were not on the roster when the year started. The depth behind McLaurin entering camp was Treylon Burks, Luke McCaffrey, and rookie Antonio Williams. None of them project as reliable starters.

What it means for your roster

Diggs fills the No. 2 WR role opposite McLaurin. He has described himself as the best No. 2 receiver in the league, so he is not positioning himself as competition for McLaurin's target share. That actually helps McLaurin owners. A functional second option draws defensive attention and keeps schemes honest, which frees McLaurin without eating into his volume in a meaningful way.

For Jayden Daniels, QB, Washington, Diggs is another legitimate weapon after a season in which the receiving corps around him was thin outside of McLaurin.

From a fantasy standpoint, Diggs averaged 12.4 PPR points per game with New England on roughly six targets per game. That is a solid floor in a much better offense, with room to grow if Daniels' development continues. Target him as a mid-to-late round pick in 2026 redraft leagues. McLaurin's value looks stable or slightly improved with a credible running mate beside him.
