Jahmyr Gibbs signs record-setting extension
Jahmyr Gibbs, RB, Detroit Lions, officially signed a three-year, $67.5 million extension that could reach $75.75 million with $51.5 million guaranteed. Adam Schefter confirmed the signing. The $22.5 million average per year tops the running back market, narrowly beating the $22.25 million APY Atlanta Falcons RB Bijan Robinson agreed to on August 4.
The Indianapolis Colts' Jonathan Taylor also signed a contract at $22 million per year around the same time, making this stretch a notable few days for the position's earning power.
What Gibbs has done through three seasons
The production backs up the price. Gibbs has rushed for 3,580 yards and 39 touchdowns on 675 attempts over 49 games, and has caught 181 passes for 1,449 yards and 10 more touchdowns. His 49 total touchdowns in the first three seasons is an NFL record. Consecutive 1,000-yard rushing seasons show he can carry the load, and the receiving work confirms a true dual-threat role.
