Stefon Diggs signs with the Commanders
Stefon Diggs, WR, Washington Commanders, is expected to sign a one-year contract worth up to $12 million, per Adam Schefter. Ian Rapoport also confirmed the deal is set, calling Diggs a weapon for Jayden Daniels.
Diggs is 32 and coming off a strong bounce-back season with the New England Patriots, where he caught 85 passes for 1,013 yards and 4 touchdowns while recovering from the ACL tear he suffered in Week 8 of 2024. New England released him after one season, opening the door to free agency again.
He has Maryland roots, played college ball at the University of Maryland, and reportedly had genuine interest in the Commanders because of the DMV connection and Daniels specifically.
Where he fits in Washington's WR room
Terry McLaurin is the WR1 and that does not change. Behind him, the depth chart was thin. Washington had been connected to Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk earlier this offseason without landing either. Diggs steps in as the clear WR2 with Luke McCaffrey, Dyami Brown, and Treylon Burks further down the pecking order.
The Commanders offense runs through Daniels, who is ascending as a franchise QB and generates targets efficiently. Rapoport called Diggs a "QB-friendly WR," and the pairing makes structural sense: Diggs runs crisp routes and works the short-to-intermediate area where Daniels already excels.
Fantasy impact
Diggs is a weekly PPR option with a real floor. He showed last season he can handle a full snap share and produce at the WR2 level coming off a torn ACL. As the second receiver in Washington, he should see consistent targets without competing with McLaurin for volume at the top of the route tree.
The one-year structure and his age introduce injury and regression risk, so he is not a set-and-forget fantasy asset. In redraft, he is a mid-round WR2/flex target, the kind of player who posts 70-catch, 850-yard lines in a plus situation. In PPR leagues he has more value. In dynasty, the one-year deal and his age put a ceiling on long-term investment.
McLaurin owners do not need to panic. Diggs as a complementary piece should not pull enough volume to hurt McLaurin's weekly floor, and a better WR2 can actually help McLaurin by pulling coverage attention away.
