Darnell Wright extension is the richest ever for a right tackle
The Chicago Bears officially signed RT Darnell Wright to a four-year, $116 million extension through 2031, the team confirmed Tuesday. The contract includes $93 million guaranteed, both figures representing NFL records for a right tackle and an offensive lineman, respectively.
The $29 million average annual value ranks second among all offensive tackles, just behind the $30.1 million Laremy Tunsil received on his extension with the Washington Commanders in March. When you fold in the two remaining years of his rookie deal, Wright is locked in with Chicago through the 2031 season.
Why this matters for Bears skill players
Wright, 24, was the 10th overall pick in the 2023 draft out of Tennessee. He earned second-team All-Pro honors in 2024 despite playing through a shoulder injury, finished fourth in the league in pass block win rate at 95.2 percent, and has started 49 of 51 games over three seasons. The Bears ranked third in rushing and top-10 in overall offense last year, winning the NFC North.
For fantasy managers, the contract is a signal about the Bears' offensive direction. Wright protects QB Caleb Williams on his blind-side-adjacent right edge, and a long-term commitment at that spot reduces one of the bigger injury-risk variables for a young franchise quarterback. Williams, WR D.J. Moore, and Chicago's running backs all benefit from continuity up front.
