Darnell Wright extension is historic for right tackles
The Chicago Bears and right tackle Darnell Wright agreed Tuesday to a four-year, $116 million extension with $93 million guaranteed, per ESPN's Adam Schefter. The contract is the largest ever for a right tackle and carries the most guaranteed money for any offensive lineman in NFL history.
Wright, 24, was originally picked No. 10 overall by Chicago in the 2023 NFL Draft out of Tennessee. He was set to play on his fifth-year option, which would have paid him roughly $6.7 million in 2026 and $19 million in 2027. This extension replaces that and locks him up well beyond those seasons.
What Wright brings to the Bears offense
Wright is coming off his best season as a pro. He allowed just 19 total pressures and three sacks in 2025, earned second-team All-Pro honors, and logged more than 1,000 offensive snaps for the third straight year. He did that while playing through a torn UCL in his right elbow with a brace for most of the season.
He fits into a Bears offensive line that already has guards Joe Thuney and Jonah Jackson on big contracts. Center Drew Dalman's surprise retirement brought in Garrett Bradbury during free agency, so the line has some moving parts, but Wright's continuity on the right side is now secured.
What this means for fantasy rosters
Wright himself has no fantasy value. This news matters because of what a healthy, stable offensive line means for Bears skill position players. Quarterback Caleb Williams and the receivers and running backs around him are the ones with fantasy upside, and a lockdown right tackle is part of what makes that offense function. Extension talks can quietly become a distraction heading into training camp. That distraction is gone. If you're already rostering Bears skill players in dynasty or redraft, this is the kind of front-office move that supports the floor of the whole group.
