Carson Beck preseason debut impresses, but he stays buried on depth chart
Carson Beck, QB for the Arizona Cardinals, completed 15 of 19 passes for 188 yards and a touchdown in Thursday's Hall of Fame Game against the Carolina Panthers in Canton, Ohio. The performance was clean and efficient for a third-round rookie making his first professional appearance.
The best stretch of Beck's night came on a 13-play, 96-yard drive that included a 35-yard completion to wide receiver Jalen Brooks. Beck also threw his first professional touchdown pass during the game, finishing a point in the night where he had connected on 10 of 12 attempts for 134 yards.
Where Beck sits on the depth chart
The strong showing does not move the needle on Beck's immediate standing. Veteran Jacoby Brissett is the projected Week 1 starter, and Gardner Minshew, who has prior NFL starting experience, is second. Beck is third. There is no reported timeline for the rookie to take over.
Beck was the 65th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft out of Miami, where he threw for 3,813 yards, 30 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions last season while leading the Hurricanes to the College Football Playoff National Championship.
What this means for your roster
Beck has no redraft value right now. As a third-stringer with no clear path to the starting job in 2026, he is off the waiver wire in most formats. Dynasty managers should take note of this debut. A 24-year-old with a 72.4 percent completion rate in college and an efficient first professional game is worth a late roster spot in deeper leagues, especially with two 30-plus quarterbacks blocking his path.
