The Houston Texans have signed fourth-round pick Febechi Nwaiwu to his four-year rookie contract worth $5.625 million, per Adam Schefter. Nwaiwu, an offensive guard out of Oklahoma, was selected 106th overall in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Who Is Nwaiwu?
Nwaiwu is a 6'4", 326-pound interior lineman who spent time at North Texas before transferring to Oklahoma. He was a walk-on at North Texas and developed into a legitimate NFL prospect. His college tape is impressive: he allowed just two pressures across 505 pass-blocking snaps in his final season, earning a 91.6 PFF pass-blocking grade in 2025.
Scouts describe him as a stout interior lineman with good length, strong hand usage, and sharp processing. His movement skills are considered marginal, but his football IQ and technique make up for it. He projects as a potential long-term starter, particularly at center.
Where Does He Fit in Houston?
GM Nick Caserio overhauled the Texans offensive line this offseason, trading away Tytus Howard and Juice Scruggs and bringing in Braden Smith, Wyatt Teller, and Evan Brown in free agency. Houston also used a first-round pick on center Keylan Rutledge.
Nwaiwu is currently running with the second string at OTAs. His most likely 2026 role is as a backup guard competing with Evan Brown for reps behind the starters. Given Brown's experience, Nwaiwu is expected to develop on the bench this season before potentially taking over the backup role in 2027.
The center position has more uncertainty. Rutledge, Jake Andrews, Brown, and Jarrett Patterson are all in the mix. Nwaiwu has the tools to factor into that competition down the road.
Fantasy Takeaway
Nwaiwu has no direct fantasy value as an offensive lineman. For 2026, his impact on C.J. Stroud, the Texans running backs, and the rest of Houston's skill position players is limited.
That said, the Texans offensive line has been a question mark, and anyone who lands a starting role on that interior line matters for Houston's fantasy-relevant weapons. Nwaiwu is worth keeping an eye on as a player with legitimate upside to become Houston's starting center long term. If he gets there, it is a quiet positive for Stroud and the Texans offense.
