The Pittsburgh Steelers signed quarterback Drew Allar to his four-year rookie contract, Adam Schefter reported. Allar, selected 76th overall in the 2026 NFL Draft out of Penn State, was the last member of Pittsburgh's draft class to sign.
Why the Delay?
The holdup was straightforward. The Steelers were waiting on the Arizona Cardinals to sign Carson Beck first. Beck, a fellow third-round quarterback, was drafted 11 spots ahead of Allar at 65th overall, so his deal set the market. Once Beck signed, Pittsburgh had the number it needed to get Allar done.
The timing also had a practical urgency. Players must be under contract to participate in training camp. Without a signed deal, Allar would have been unable to practice at Saint Vincent College when camp opened on July 29.
Where Allar Fits in Pittsburgh
The Steelers' QB room is crowded at the top. Aaron Rodgers is back and locked in as QB1. Will Howard, a sixth-round pick from 2025 who had positioned himself as the heir apparent if Rodgers walked, is now QB2. Mason Rudolph serves as the veteran backup, and Allar slots in as QB4.
Allar had a strong college career at Penn State, completing 633 passes for 7,402 yards and 61 touchdowns across 45 games with 35 starts. An ankle injury shortened his final college season and contributed to his third-round grade despite being the fourth quarterback taken in this draft class.
Fantasy Football Outlook
Redraft leagues: No value in 2026. Allar is buried on the depth chart and will not see meaningful regular-season action.
Dynasty leagues: He is worth a stash. Allar is 22 years old, has legitimate starting potential, and lands behind a 42-year-old Rodgers. If Rodgers moves on after 2026, Allar and Howard will compete for the job. The lack of a rushing element caps his ceiling as a fantasy quarterback, but his arm talent and pedigree make him a viable late-round dynasty add for patient managers.
