Trent Taylor Retires After Seven NFL Seasons
Wide receiver Trent Taylor announced his retirement after seven NFL seasons, sharing the news on social media alongside longtime friend and teammate George Kittle.
Career Overview
The 49ers drafted Taylor in the fifth round out of Louisiana Tech in 2017. He made an immediate impression as a reliable slot option in Kyle Shanahan's offense, posting his best statistical season as a rookie with 43 receptions for 430 yards and two touchdowns.
Over his career Taylor caught 88 passes for 845 yards and three touchdowns. He also contributed as a punt returner, fielding 112 returns for 1,051 yards.
After four seasons in San Francisco, Taylor spent time with the Cincinnati Bengals and Chicago Bears before returning to the 49ers in 2024. He appeared in all four of Cincinnati's postseason games during their Super Bowl run. His final stint in San Francisco ended when the 49ers placed him on injured reserve June 3, 2025 with a back injury, costing him the entire 2025 season.
Fantasy Impact
There is none. Taylor was a depth player in his final seasons and carried no fantasy value at the time of his retirement. His departure does not move the needle on the 49ers WR depth chart. Ricky Pearsall enters his third season as the clear top option in San Francisco after serving as the starting receiver throughout the 2025 season.
