Nacua Breaks Silence After Rough Off-Season
Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua spoke publicly Thursday after Rams OTA activity, his first extended comments since a turbulent stretch that included a stay at a holistic rehabilitation facility in Malibu and a lawsuit filed against him in March.
Nacua, 25, said journaling has been a meaningful part of his recovery process. "Little did I know that even just writing in a journal, as simple as that, and finding ways to express some of the things I have near and dear to my heart ... it's been a great improvement in my life," he said.
What Happened This Off-Season
Nacua's off-season included several notable incidents:
- He entered a holistic rehab facility early in the off-season.
- A woman named Madison Atiabi filed a lawsuit in March alleging Nacua made an antisemitic statement and bit her on the shoulder during a New Year's Eve party. She also claims he bit her friend's thumb. Nacua was reportedly served with the lawsuit while still at the facility.
- Last December, Nacua issued a public apology after performing a gesture tied to antisemitic tropes on an internet livestream and making critical comments about NFL officials on social media.
Nacua described the rehab stay as "a short stint" and said he has been working with a team therapist and attending weekly meetings. He noted he is focused on being a better father, friend, and teammate rather than dwelling on his contract situation.
Fantasy Outlook
For fantasy managers, the most important takeaway is that Nacua has not missed any offseason workouts. He is a full participant at OTAs heading into what is officially a contract year.
His 2024 production was elite across the board: 129 receptions, 1,715 yards, and 10 touchdowns in 16 games, all career highs. He led the NFL in receiving yards per game at 107.2 and earned first-team All-Pro honors alongside Matthew Stafford's MVP campaign.
The concern for fantasy, particularly in dynasty formats, is the contract extension timeline. The Rams acquiring Myles Garrett and his massive deal tightens the team's financial flexibility. An extension for Nacua this summer is no longer a given, which creates some long-term roster uncertainty even if his 2025 role is secure.
Bottom line: Nacua is on the field, engaged, and coming off a historically strong season. He is a high-upside WR1 for 2025 redraft leagues. Dynasty managers should watch how the contract situation develops before committing extra capital.
