Kyle Monangai soft tissue injury: Bears taking it day-by-day

Kyle Monangai soft tissue injury details
Chicago Bears RB Kyle Monangai (RB, Chicago Bears) is dealing with a soft tissue injury in training camp, HC Ben Johnson told reporters. "We're taking it day-by-day," Johnson said. "It should be on the shorter side."
No specific timetable has been given, but the "shorter side" comment is at least mildly encouraging. Monangai had been notably absent from camp practices before Johnson confirmed the injury, per Adam Schefter.
How bad is Chicago's RB depth situation?
Monangai is not the only Bears back in the training room. Johnson noted broader concern about the room, pointing to Roschon Johnson (foot) and Travis Homer (calf) as also working through injuries. That is three backups unavailable or limited at the same time, which puts the entire depth chart behind D'Andre Swift in question right now.
The backs currently getting extra camp reps include Brittain Brown and Salvon Ahmed.
What this means for Monangai's fantasy value
Monangai broke out in 2025, rushing for 783 yards and five touchdowns across 17 games while adding 18 catches for 164 yards. He was a seventh-round pick in 2025 out of Rutgers. His job behind Swift is the one fantasy managers care about, and missing camp time can affect conditioning and role clarity heading into the regular season.
D'Andre Swift (RB, Chicago Bears) remains the lead back and posted 1,087 rushing yards and nine touchdowns in 2025. He is entering 2026 on an expiring contract, which makes the handcuff spot behind him worth tracking closely.
If Monangai misses significant time before the season, Roschon Johnson and Brittain Brown become speculative adds in deeper leagues. For now, the "shorter side" framing keeps Monangai's value intact, but watch for practice participation reports as camp progresses. A prolonged absence changes his dynasty and redraft ceiling going into 2026.
