Jonathan Taylor extension removes all fantasy uncertainty
RB Jonathan Taylor and the Indianapolis Colts agreed to a two-year, $44 million contract extension worth up to $47 million, with $39 million guaranteed, per ESPN's Adam Schefter and NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Rapoport confirmed it is the largest third contract ever for an NFL running back.
Taylor's agent Malki Kawa of First Round Management negotiated the deal.
What the contract means on the depth chart
Taylor, a three-time Pro Bowl selection and 2021 AP first-team All-Pro, had been under contract through the 2026 season on his previous extension. This new contract adds two more years, keeping him in Indianapolis through 2028. There is no ambiguity about his role: he is the Colts' every-down back, and this contract confirms it.
For fantasy purposes, the concern with Taylor has never been talent. It has been availability and contract status. Both are now settled. No holdout risk, no trade rumors, no uncertainty about where he plays.
Is Taylor a must-draft RB?
At $22 million average annual value, the contract slots him below the top of the market set by backs like Bijan Robinson and De'Von Achane, but that has no bearing on fantasy value. What matters is workload, and Taylor's volume in Indianapolis is as reliable as any back in the league.
In redraft, he is a locked-in RB1. In dynasty, the two-year extension through 2028 gives him a long runway and makes him a hold at any reasonable price. The Colts just told you he is their guy. Treat him accordingly on your roster.
