Jadeveon Clowney returns to Houston on a one-year deal

Jadeveon Clowney, DE, is officially back with the Houston Texans on a one-year contract worth $5.5 million base and up to $8 million in incentives, per KPRC2's Aaron Wilson. The Texans drafted Clowney first overall in 2014, and he spent six seasons with six different teams before returning.

Clowney was productive in 2025 with the Dallas Cowboys despite not playing until Week 4. He finished with 8.5 sacks (his most since 9.5 with the Baltimore Ravens in 2023), 12 tackles for loss, and 22 quarterback pressures across 13 games. He did that on a 31.4 percent snap share.

What his role looks like in Houston

This is a rotational situation. The Texans already have two of the better edge rushers in the league: Will Anderson Jr. posted 12 sacks in 2025 and earned first-team All-Pro honors, while Danielle Hunter led the team with 15 sacks and made second-team All-Pro. Those two are the starters. Clowney comes in as a third option in the pass rush rotation.

Clowney told the Houston Chronicle the decision was easy: "I felt like they got a good team and I can help contribute. It wasn't about the money."

Fantasy football impact: IDP and DST only

In standard non-IDP formats, Clowney has no roster relevance. Skip him on the waiver wire.

In IDP leagues, he is a fringe flex option at best. His 31.4 percent snap share in Dallas is the ceiling to keep in mind. Anderson and Hunter absorb the bulk of the pass rush snaps, which caps Clowney's sack upside. If your IDP scoring rewards pressures and tackles for loss, he is worth a late stash in deeper leagues, but he is not a starter.

For Houston DST managers, this signing adds another quality pass rusher to an already elite front. More pass rush depth means more sack opportunities for the unit as a whole, which is a modest positive for anyone rostering the Texans' team defense.
