Hassan Haskins and Alexander Mattison work out for Houston

The Houston Texans tried out veteran running backs Hassan Haskins and Alexander Mattison, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Neither player has been signed as of the report.

Joe Mixon, RB for the Texans, holds the starting job and is not threatened here. This is Houston filling out its depth chart.

What Mattison brings

Alexander Mattison spent five seasons with the Minnesota Vikings before stints with the Las Vegas Raiders and Miami Dolphins. He has legitimate receiving chops: career-high 30 receptions with three touchdowns in his final Vikings season, averaging 7.2 yards per catch. If Houston signs him as the No. 2 back, he has some PPR floor as a pass-catcher, but his upside behind Mixon is capped.

What Haskins brings

Hassan Haskins, a 2022 fourth-round pick out of Michigan, has been mostly a special teams contributor in the NFL. He logged 17 carries and four receptions across 12 games for the Los Angeles Chargers in 2025 while sitting behind Omarion Hampton and Najee Harris. He is a practice-squad or emergency depth candidate, not a fantasy-relevant add.

Fantasy takeaway

Neither player moves the needle on Mixon's value. If Mattison signs and Mixon misses time, Mattison would be worth a waiver claim in PPR formats given his receiving history. Watch for a signing announcement before making any roster moves.
