Commanders IR moves: Newton and Tunsil sidelined

Commanders place Laremy Tunsil and Jer'Zhan Newton on IR

The Washington Commanders placed OT Laremy Tunsil and DT Jer'Zhan Newton on injured reserve, per ESPN's Adam Schefter. Neither player is available while on IR.

Tunsil is the name to watch from a fantasy angle. An offensive lineman going down affects everyone behind him: the quarterback, the running backs, and the receivers who depend on a clean pocket and run blocking to generate yardage.

Newton is a defensive tackle, so his IR stint does not directly move fantasy assets. DT Shy Tuttle was re-signed to a one-year contract, adding depth on that side of the ball.

What this means for your roster

If you roster any Commanders skill players, check how Washington fills the Tunsil void on the offensive line. Downgraded line play can suppress rushing and passing volume. Commanders skill players carry more risk until that depth chart is sorted.
