Browns Add CB Damarri Mathis, Move On From Dom Jones

The Cleveland Browns have signed cornerback Damarri Mathis and waived cornerback Dom Jones with a failed physical designation, per Adam Schefter.

Damarri Mathis

Mathis was a fourth-round pick (115th overall) by the Denver Broncos in the 2022 NFL Draft out of Pittsburgh. He played in 43 regular-season games over three seasons with Denver, making 18 starts before the Broncos released him in August 2025.

The Carolina Panthers claimed him off waivers, but his season ended quickly. Mathis suffered a torn ACL in practice, was confirmed out by head coach Dave Canales, and landed on injured reserve on September 6, 2025. That knee injury will be the key factor in determining when or whether he can contribute for Cleveland.

Dom Jones

Jones was a rookie undrafted free agent out of Colorado State who signed with Cleveland on May 9, 2025. He appeared in eight games and recorded five tackles before a knee injury landed him on injured reserve earlier this season. The failed physical designation on his waiver means the knee has not cleared a team physical, ending his time with the Browns.

Fantasy Takeaway

Both players are cornerbacks, so there is essentially no impact in standard fantasy formats. In IDP leagues, Mathis is worth a watchlist spot as he works back from the torn ACL, but he is unlikely to contribute in the near term. Jones had little IDP value at any point this season.

The bigger-picture storyline is Cleveland's cornerback depth, which could affect opposing wide receiver matchups on the Browns' schedule going forward.
