Rasul Douglas Signs with Washington Commanders
Adam Schefter reports that free-agent cornerback Rasul Douglas is planning to sign a one-year deal with the Washington Commanders worth up to $3.8 million.
Douglas spent the 2025 season with the Miami Dolphins on a bargain one-year, $1.57 million deal. He made 13 starts across 15 appearances, recording 62 tackles, 13 passes defensed, two interceptions, and a forced fumble. His 72.7 overall PFF defensive grade ranked 21st among 114 qualified cornerbacks. He had a standout Week 14 performance against the Jets -- five pass breakups and an interception -- that earned him AFC Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Douglas is a big cornerback at 6-foot-2 and 209 pounds. Originally a third-round pick (99th overall) by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2017 NFL Draft, he has since started for the Panthers, Packers, Bills, and Dolphins. The Washington signing brings him back to the NFC East.
Commanders Secondary Context
Washington's cornerback room was thin heading into the offseason. Mike Sainristil is the key incumbent, and Douglas figures to compete for a starting outside corner role and provide proven depth. Douglas has played predominantly on the outside throughout his career, though he has logged slot snaps as well.
At 30 years old, this is a short-term, low-risk move for Washington rather than a long-term commitment.
Fantasy Football Implications
Douglas is a cornerback, so his direct fantasy value is limited to IDP formats. The broader fantasy angle is what a bolstered Commanders secondary means for opposing pass catchers. Adding a starter-caliber corner -- one who ranked 21st at his position by PFF last season -- makes Washington's defense more credible. That is worth a small downgrade when projecting fantasy output for wide receivers and tight ends facing the Commanders in 2026.
Not a needle-mover on its own, but a piece worth noting as Washington builds out a secondary that needed real reinforcement.
