Rams Legend LeRoy Irvin Dies at 68
The Los Angeles Rams announced the passing of franchise legend LeRoy Irvin on Wednesday. He was 68 years old. No cause of death has been confirmed.
Irvin played cornerback for the Rams from 1980 to 1989 after being drafted in the third round (70th overall) out of the University of Kansas. He wrapped up his career with the Detroit Lions in 1990, finishing with 159 games played.
He earned two Pro Bowl selections and was one of a small number of players in NFL history to earn All-Pro honors at two different positions, reflecting his value both as a cover corner and a return specialist.
On the return game alone, Irvin left a mark that still stands. He holds the NFL single-game record for punt return yards, racking up 207 yards against the Atlanta Falcons in 1981.
Former Rams running back Eric Dickerson, who co-founded an NFL-licensed merchandise company with Irvin called Original Mini's Inc., also announced the passing.
There are no fantasy football implications here. This is a tribute to one of the more versatile and accomplished players in Rams history. The thoughts of the FF Beacon staff are with his family and friends.
