Tests have confirmed that Panthers edge rusher Nic Scourton suffered a torn ACL in his right knee, per Adam Schefter and Cameron Wolfe. The injury occurred during the Carolina Panthers and Houston Texans joint practice on August 16, and head coach Dave Canales had confirmed a right knee injury was the primary concern while testing was underway.

Earlier reports had pointed to a collapsed lung as the initial diagnosis following the practice session, but the confirmed diagnosis is now a torn ACL, which typically requires 9 to 12 months of recovery. Scourton is almost certainly out for the entire 2025 season.

Who Is Scourton?

Scourton was a 2025 second-round pick out of Texas A&M, where the Panthers traded up to No. 51 overall to get him. Before Texas A&M, he spent two seasons at Purdue and led the Big Ten with 10 sacks in 2023. In his lone season with the Aggies he earned first-team All-SEC honors and posted 5.0 sacks over 17 games.

He is 21 years old, 6-foot-2, and 257 pounds. He was expected to make a significant impact as a pass rusher opposite Jaelan Phillips in 2025.

Fantasy Relevance

Scourton is an edge rusher, so he has no relevance in standard fantasy formats. In IDP leagues, his value is now gone for 2025. The torn ACL ends his rookie season before it began, and IDP managers should remove him from their rosters. The Panthers will need to look elsewhere to fill the pass rush role opposite Jaelan Phillips.
