Brooks Gets Paid in Miami
The Miami Dolphins and linebacker Jordyn Brooks have agreed to a 3-year extension worth $51.3 million with $35 million guaranteed, per Adam Schefter. Agent Erik Burkhardt of Roc Nation Sports confirmed the terms.
The deal builds on top of the 3-year, $26.25 million contract Brooks signed with Miami in March 2024. He was entering the final year of that original deal and was set to carry a $10.8 million cap hit in 2026.
For context on market value, Azeez Al-Shaair recently signed a 3-year, $54 million extension with Houston at $18 million per year, making him the third-highest paid off-ball linebacker behind Fred Warner and Roquan Smith. Brooks came in just below that range, which tracks with reports that he was not pushing for a top-of-market deal.
What He Did to Earn It
Brooks, 28 and turning 29 in October, has started all 34 Dolphins games over the past two seasons. In 2025 he led the entire NFL with 183 combined tackles, added 3.5 sacks and 14 tackles for loss, and earned his first first-team All-Pro and Pro Bowl selections. This marks the second time in his career he has led the NFL in tackles, having also done so in 2021. PFF graded him 11th among 88 qualified linebackers.
Dolphins GM Jon-Eric Sullivan had previously identified Brooks as one of three core players he wanted to build around under the new regime. Miami already locked up RB De'Von Achane and C Aaron Brewer. Brooks was the last piece of that group to get done.
IDP Takeaway
Brooks was the IDP1 at linebacker in 2025 and is the projected LB1 overall for 2026. This extension matters for IDP managers for a few reasons.
First, the trade uncertainty that had been floating around for months is gone. You are not rostering a player who might move to a different scheme mid-offseason.
Second, the situation in Miami sets him up for another massive tackle season. The Dolphins are in a rebuild under HC Jeff Hafley and GM Sullivan. Their offense figures to struggle, which means the defense will spend more time on the field and Brooks will keep racking up tackles at an elite rate.
There is nothing fluky about 183 tackles on a team trending toward more defensive snaps. Brooks is a cornerstone IDP piece and you can roster him with full confidence going into drafts.
