Jalon Walker ACL tear confirmed for 2026
Atlanta Falcons edge rusher Jalon Walker has a confirmed torn ACL and will miss the entire 2026 season, per Adam Schefter. Walker suffered the injury during an 11-on-11 two-minute drill at non-padded training camp practice on August 4. He was carted off the field after the training staff evaluated him, and the Falcons called off the rest of practice.
Walker was the No. 15 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft and just completed his rookie year, recording 36 tackles, 5.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery across 15 games (nine starts). He was Atlanta's top defensive breakout candidate entering 2026 and was projected to start at weakside linebacker under new head coach Kevin Stefanski.
What this means for IDP leagues
Walker is only relevant in IDP formats. Drop him in every IDP league. A standard nine-month ACL recovery timeline puts him back around May 2027 spring practices at the earliest.
The Falcons have Samson Ebukam, Azeez Ojulari, Cameron Thomas, and Bralen Trice available at edge. Trice is worth noting after missing two consecutive seasons to torn ACLs of his own. The team may also add a free agent off the edge; Leonard Floyd and Haason Reddick are among the available veterans. None of these options carry meaningful standalone IDP value, but the starter role is open if you need a late-round dart throw.
There is an added layer of uncertainty with James Pearce Jr., the other first-round edge rusher from Atlanta's 2025 draft class, who faces a potential NFL suspension stemming from a domestic violence arrest in February.
