Jalen Carter extension locks him in Philadelphia through 2031

Jalen Carter, DT for the Philadelphia Eagles, just became the highest-paid defensive tackle in NFL history. The Eagles signed him to a four-year, $152 million extension worth up to $160 million, with $106 million guaranteed. His agents Drew and Jason Rosenhaus confirmed the deal, first reported by Adam Schefter.

Carter is 25 years old and was the 9th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. His fifth-year option had already been exercised this offseason, and this extension now runs through 2031. His average annual value of $38 million puts him first among all defensive tackles in both total value and AAV.

What Carter's production looks like

In 2024, Carter earned second-team All-Pro honors and his first Pro Bowl nod. He led the Eagles in quarterback pressures (45), quarterback hits (16), and tackles for loss (12) as Philadelphia led the league in total defense. In 2025, a shoulder injury limited him to 11 games, but he still posted 33 combined tackles, 29 pressures, 12 quarterback hits, three sacks, and seven pass defenses, earning a second Pro Bowl selection.

The shoulder injury is worth noting. He played through it and produced, but 11 games in a season is a durability flag.

IDP leagues: where this actually matters

In standard redraft and PPR formats, Carter has zero direct fantasy relevance. In IDP leagues, he is a premier DT. His pressure and sack numbers at the position are elite, and this contract confirms he is the centerpiece of the Eagles' defensive line for the foreseeable future.

If you are managing an IDP roster, Carter is a locked-in starter at DT when healthy. The shoulder injury from 2025 is the one thing to watch heading into the 2026 season. If he stays on the field, the production profile is there.
