Ja'Kobi Lane is putting on a show at Ravens training camp

Ja'Kobi Lane is making a case to be the most talked-about rookie at Ravens training camp, and ESPN's Jamison Hensley, who has covered the Ravens for 27 years, says he has never seen a rookie camp quite like it. Hensley reports Lane produces a highlight catch every single day, including a play so impressive that running back Derrick Henry leaped in celebration.
What Lane is actually doing on the field
The catches are not one-off moments. Per the Ravens official site, Lane made a "phenomenal third-down catch" in 11-on-11s that sparked an offensive drive Henry finished with a rushing touchdown. In a separate 7-on-7 drill, Lane soared to haul in a deep ball down the middle. On another rep, he made a full-extension, 30-yard catch down the seam, going up over safety Malaki Starks and cornerback Marlon Humphrey. The Ravens site also credited him with a one-handed sideline grab during Tuesday's session.
Lane stands 6 feet 4 inches, weighs 200 pounds, and reportedly has a 40-inch vertical. That size and athleticism are what the catches look like on tape.
What coaches and teammates are saying
Lamar Jackson told SI.com: "Oh man, this guy is different. He is different, long arms, strong hands. I am going to say he is a physical receiver."
Offensive coordinator Declan Doyle compared Lane to Michael Thomas, saying: "He's got this huge catch radius, he's got great hands."
Zay Flowers, the Ravens' No. 1 receiver, said Lane works every day, listens, and applies coaching quickly.
GM Eric DeCosta said in April that Jackson was going to be excited when he saw Lane and that Lane would earn trust as someone who can make big plays.
Where Lane fits on the depth chart
Flowers holds the No. 1 receiver spot after signing a four-year extension. Rashod Bateman is slotted at No. 2 coming off a disappointing 2025 season. The No. 3 WR spot is open, and per SI.com, the Ravens are expected to run a more 11-personnel-heavy scheme under Doyle this year. Lane is the leading candidate to claim that role based on everything coming out of camp.
For dynasty managers, Lane profiles as a high-upside target with a real path to snaps in year one. Redraft managers should keep an eye on how the depth chart settles before committing a roster spot, but the early returns are hard to ignore.
