Free agent safety Donovan Wilson worked out for the Seattle Seahawks on Wednesday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. No contract has been reported yet.

Why the Seahawks are interested

Seahawks defensive coordinator Aden Durde and Wilson overlapped on the Dallas Cowboys defensive staff from 2021 to 2023, when Durde was the Cowboys' defensive line coach. Durde joined Seattle in February 2024. That existing familiarity is the likely reason Wilson got the call.

Seattle has leaned on former Cowboys defenders recently. DeMarcus Lawrence signed with the team in 2025, and Dante Fowler Jr. joined this offseason after three seasons in Dallas.

What this means for Nick Emmanwori

The timing matters because Seahawks safety Nick Emmanwori (S, SEA) is on the physically unable to perform list after ankle surgery earlier this month. Emmanwori was the runner-up for 2025 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year. His Week 1 status against the New England Patriots is uncertain.

Wilson spent all seven NFL seasons in Dallas (2019-2025), starting 75 of 98 games. He finished the 2025 season with 71 tackles, two interceptions, and five pass breakups across 15 starts. Scouts have noted he is a physical hitter but a liability in coverage, which is worth keeping in mind if he steps into a role behind Emmanwori.

Fantasy roster impact

Wilson himself has no fantasy value. But Emmanwori's PUP status is worth watching for managers in IDP leagues or for anyone trying to read Seattle's defensive identity early in the season. If Emmanwori misses time, Wilson would be a serviceable veteran fill-in, not an upgrade. Monitor whether Seattle signs Wilson, which would confirm Emmanwori's absence is being taken seriously heading into Week 1.
