Chris Brazzell II, WR, Carolina Panthers, suffered a moderate LCL tear in his left knee during training camp practice and is expected to miss up to 8 weeks, per Adam Schefter and Cameron Wolfe (Joseph Person first reported). Brazzell will seek a second opinion.

Head coach Dave Canales had confirmed the injury after Brazzell was carted off unable to bear weight. The LCL tear is now the confirmed diagnosis.

What happened

Brazzell missed Sunday and Tuesday's practices with what Canales initially described as precautionary knee soreness. He returned Wednesday but aggravated the same knee and had to be carted off the field.

The diagnosis is a moderate LCL tear. He is expected to miss up to 8 weeks. With NFL Week 1 approximately 6.5 weeks away, Brazzell is on track to miss the start of the regular season unless his second opinion changes the timeline.

What does this mean for the Panthers WR3 race?

Brazzell II was a 3rd-round pick out of Tennessee in the 2026 draft and had been making an impression as a field-stretching deep threat. He was competing for the WR3 role against Xavier Legette, John Metchie, and Jimmy Horn.

Tetairoa McMillan and Jalen Coker are the established WR1 and WR2, so their value is unaffected.

Legette is now the most likely beneficiary. He made a notable catch during the same practice session after Brazzell went down and is the most experienced name in that WR3 competition.

Who to add on the waiver wire

Legette is worth adding in most formats where he is available. Metchie and Horn are deeper stashes worth monitoring as the depth chart shakes out without Brazzell II.

In dynasty leagues, Brazzell II's long-term outlook hinges on his second opinion and how the moderate tear responds to treatment. The 8-week timeline rules him out for Week 1, which limits his redraft value for the foreseeable future. Hold in dynasty, but do not count on him for your Week 1 lineup.
