Bryan Bresee placed on IR after torn ACL

Saints DT Bryan Bresee is officially on injured reserve after tearing his ACL at training camp, ending his 2026 season.
The injury was non-contact and happened during New Orleans' first practice at their Metairie facility. Head coach Kellen Moore confirmed the ACL tear and said Bresee will undergo surgery. The placement on IR, reported by Adam Schefter, makes the move official.
What this means for the Saints' defensive line
With Bresee out, CBS Sports reports John Ridgeway is expected to step into a starting role. The remaining depth includes Davon Godchaux, Nathan Shepherd, rookie Christen Miller, and Vernon Broughton.
None of those names carry meaningful fantasy value in any format.
Bresee's injury timeline
An ACL repair typically carries a nine-month recovery timeline, per CBS Sports, which puts Bresee on track to be available for the 2027 season. The Saints previously picked up the fifth-year option on his rookie contract for 2027 at $13.9 million guaranteed, so the team has a clear financial stake in his return.
This was Bresee's second ACL tear. He tore the same knee at Clemson in 2021.
