Bills Will Not Honor O.J. Simpson at New Highmark Stadium
Bills Leaving O.J. Simpson Off New Stadium Legends Display
The Buffalo Bills have decided O.J. Simpson will not be honored among the franchise's legends at the new Highmark Stadium, ESPN's Alaina Getzenberg reported, with Adam Schefter amplifying the story.
Bills president of business operations Pete Guelli made the organizational decision official: "We have made an organizational decision that he is not a fit to display inside our new stadium and family circle."
What the New Stadium Will Feature
The new Highmark Stadium will not carry over the traditional Wall of Fame format. Instead, the Bills are creating a "Family Circle" area outside the stadium that will celebrate team history and Western New York. The space will include the team's three bison statues and is designed to be a year-round gathering spot. All other Wall of Fame members are expected to be honored there. Simpson appears to be the only one excluded.
Simpson's Place in Bills History
Simpson played nine of his 11 NFL seasons with Buffalo. He ranks second in franchise history with 10,183 rushing yards and was the first player inducted onto the original Wall of Fame when it opened in 1980. His name was displayed at the team's old stadium throughout its run.
Simpson died in April 2024 after battling cancer. He had been a central figure in the 1994 murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman, for which he was acquitted in criminal court but found liable in a subsequent civil trial.
As recently as this past spring, the Bills were still internally debating whether to include Simpson, with the design team reportedly preparing for both outcomes.
