Tua Tagovailoa starts Falcons preseason opener vs Broncos

By

Tua Tagovailoa starts Friday, but the QB1 job is not settled

Tua Tagovailoa, QB, Atlanta Falcons, will start the team's preseason opener Friday night against the Denver Broncos, head coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed Wednesday. Stefanski was clear that starting in the preseason does not guarantee Tagovailoa the Week 1 job, saying it is still too early to name a regular-season starter.

The Falcons open the regular season at the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sept. 13.

How much will Tagovailoa play Friday?

Stefanski said starters will play the first series or approximately 10 plays, whichever comes first. After Tagovailoa, Cooper Rush will take the next snaps, and undrafted rookie Jack Strand will finish out the game.

What this means for your roster

The QB competition in Atlanta is real. Do not treat this preseason start as confirmation that Tagovailoa is the Week 1 starter. Monitor how Stefanski characterizes the competition after Friday's game before committing a roster spot in redraft or making moves in dynasty.
