Cade Mays wrist injury: what Campbell said
Lions center Cade Mays suffered a wrist injury that head coach Dan Campbell called a "significant" amount of time lost, per Tim Twentyman and NBC Sports. Campbell did add that the injury is not believed to be season-ending, which limits the damage somewhat.
Mays signed with Detroit this offseason on a three-year, $25 million contract as an unrestricted free agent. He was brought in to replace Frank Ragnow, who retired. Campbell had already praised Mays publicly, calling him "an ascending player at the position" at the Annual League Meetings.
Who steps in at center
Michael Niese, a third-year offensive lineman, is next on the depth chart behind Mays and figures to get the first opportunity to fill in, per NBC Sports.
Niese is not a name most fantasy managers have rostered or followed. That said, center play affects the whole offensive line, and Detroit's offense is worth monitoring closely if the interior protection slips.
